Planting and caring for blunt cypress

The species grows for a long time in the climate of the middle zone of the country, if you adhere to the conditions:

  • the place does not suffer from northerly winds;
  • the soil is drained, regularly moistened;
  • neutral or slightly acidic soils;
  • variegated bushes are planted in the sun and in partial shade.

It is advisable to acquire expensive dull-leaved seedlings only in nurseries. A hole is dug in the fall, planting is carried out in the spring. The hole should be 60x60x80 cm in size. Broken brick and sand are placed on the bottom for drainage with a layer of 20 cm. The seedling is placed so that the root collar is not sprinkled with earth. Fertilizers are not added, especially organic ones. Watered with 8-9 liters of water, mulched with peat, sawdust. Shade from the sun is arranged for 2-3 weeks.

The care includes loosening the soil after watering, which is carried out weekly. Be sure to arrange sprinkling of a dull-leaved plant if there is no rain for a long time. For the seedling, they purchase a special feeding for conifers. A shelter made of agrofibre, burlap is prepared for winter, or they are covered with snow. The next spring, pruning is carried out, removing damaged branches and forming a crown. The dull-leaved look tolerates a haircut well, experts create topiary forms.

The species of blunt-leaved cypress trees are propagated by seeds, sown in a container, and refrigerated for 3 months for stratification. Then the sprouts are transferred to the school. It is easier to dig in the layers from the lower branches. The top of the branch is not buried in, but tied to a peg. In the spring, the sprouts are planted. Cut in early summer, planting in a mini-greenhouse. Rooted shoots are transplanted into the garden in autumn, covering with leaves.

The dull-leaved species is hardy. Trees can suffer from overflow from root rot. Sometimes branches damaged by the fungus dry out. Spraying with fungicides is applied. Noticing rotting roots, the seedling is dug up, sore spots are cut off, treated with ash, fungicide and placed in a new hole.

Protect from spider mites with acaricides. Insecticides are used against insects, in particular, against the scale insects.

Reviews of the cypress stupid

Lydia Slavtsova, 49 years old, Leningrad region

I bought 3 years ago 2 bushes of a dull-leaved species without a name, but the crown of the seedlings was different. One was rounded, with flexible branches, while the other had rigid branches stretching upward. Both were in partial shade, sheltering for the winter. But the round one was frozen, and the other took root. It turns green well. The soil on the site was slightly acidic, the place was cozy. Probably, the tree could not stand the frost. Now I want to buy some kind of dwarf variety for the container.

Inna Samburova, 41, Skopin

Planted by Nana Gratsilis, growing in the 4th year. The growth is really small, but the appearance of the bush is magnificent. One summer the tips of the branches turned yellow. After searching the Internet, I decided that this is a consequence of the dry period. She began to regularly pour over the bush in the evenings. Over time, the needles recovered. I cover it for the winter, making a tent from burlap. First, in the fall, I pour out 2 buckets of water, then mulch with sawdust. And with the frost I put up a shelter.

Dull cypress Nana Gratsilis does not require complex care, like other varieties. Plants give the garden a special oriental charm. The site is especially revitalized by an evergreen shrub of a dull-leaved species in the cold season.
