Clematis is the most popular climbing perennial plant that can beautify any garden. Distinctive features are considered to be an attractive appearance, a variety of shapes and colors. If you first consider the description and photo of Clematis Cloudburst and other varieties, you can see that all existing species are divided into 3 pruning groups, as a result of which the care process will be significantly different.
Description of Clematis Cloudburst
The clematis Cloudburst hybrid was bred by Polish breeders on the territory of the Szczepana Marczyński nursery. During the flowering period, flowers appear in a light pink-purple hue, the middle is white, while there are streaks of pink.
Flowers can reach a diameter of 10-12 cm; in total, from 4 to 6 rhombic petals can form. The petals have pointed wavy edges, from the bottom they are light pink, in the center there is a dark stripe. The anthers are located in the central part of the flower, as a rule, they have a fairly dark purple-purple hue with a creamy stem.
The flowering is plentiful, continues from the second half of August, towards the end of September the flowering is already weaker. Young shoots of Clematis of the Cloudburst variety have a green-purple color, the old ones acquire a brown tint. Clematis is able to grow up to 3 m.
Important! A distinctive feature is strong growth and low requirements for care and cultivation.

Growing conditions for clematis Cloudburst
The optimal conditions for growing Clematis of the Cloudburst variety is considered to be the choice of loose and fertile land. An excellent solution is clay or loamy soils with a neutral reaction. Before planting clematis, you need to prepare a pit.
Attention! Planting is carried out in the spring, while the shoots have not gone into active growth.
For flowering to be timely, the bushes should be planted in a sunny place. In this case, the size of the pit should be 70x70x70 cm.It is recommended to bring to the bottom of the pit:
- about 2-3 buckets of compost:
- 3 tbsp. l. granular superphosphate;
- 200 g of wood ash.
For acidic soils, add 100 g of dolomite flour.
Planting and caring for large-flowered Clematis Cloudburst
Before planting Clematis Cloudburst on a permanent growing site, it should be borne in mind that it is not recommended to plant a culture in close proximity to the building wall. This is due to the fact that in rainy weather, water will drip from the roof, causing significant damage to the root system of the plant. That is why it is recommended to indent from the wall by about 45-55 cm. If the planting process is carried out as correctly as possible, then leaving will not be difficult.
Planting should not be too deep, as excessive deepening significantly inhibits the growth of Clematis Cloudburst. In some cases, vines may even die. If a light soil is chosen for planting, then in young plants the depth of the root collar should be 10 cm, in old ones - by 15 cm.
Watering should be regular. As a rule, each bush should consume about 15 liters of water, while the soil should always be moist and always loose. If the Clematis of the Cloudburst variety is more than 5 years old, then watering should be abundant so that the water penetrates to a depth of 70 cm.
Since the root system of Clematis Cloudburst quite often suffers from abundant watering and overheating of the soil, it is recommended to mulch around the plant. Throughout the season, the ground is mulched several times, while making a layer of the order of 5-7 cm.In this case, you can use crushed lawn, humus or sawdust. If necessary, low flowers can be planted around the bush.
Important! Clematis of the Cloudburst variety belongs to the 3rd group of pruning.
Preparing for winter
In October, it is necessary to cut off the entire liana near the Cloudburst clematis (cloud burst), while above ground level there should be about 2-3 nodes up to 20 cm high. After that, the plant must be sprinkled with a small amount of peat or humus. As soon as the work is carried out, it is recommended to cover the top of the vine with a wooden box, upside down, and pour sawdust, peat or dry leaves on top. Such a layer should be 40 cm. A plastic wrap is placed on top of it. In order for the plant to have some airing, the film is not fixed on the sides. As practice shows, a similar method of shelter is used for clematis blooming on the shoots of the current year.
Undoubtedly, clematis blooming on the shoots of last year also need shelter for the winter. This will require highly developed shoots at a height of 1 to 1.5 m. The liana is carefully removed from the support and laid on the ground, you will first need to prepare spruce branches. After the vine is laid on the spruce branches, it is again covered with spruce branches on top and covered with a 20 cm layer of dry leaves, then the spruce branches again. Ultimately, you will need to stretch plastic wrap on such a layer of shelters. This approach allows you to protect clematis of the Cloudburst variety from dampness, and spruce branches from the penetration of mice.
There are several ways in which you can propagate Cloudburst clematis:
- dividing the root system of an adult bush into several parts is the simplest and most popular option;
- reproduction by layering - you can get a fairly good result, but it takes much more time;
- cuttings - this method of reproduction must be carried out before the flowering period.
These methods are considered the simplest, as a result of which they are so popular among gardeners.
Diseases and pests
According to the description and reviews, Clematis Cloudburst is susceptible to fungal diseases if the culture is planted in open ground. In the first half of summer, soil fungi infect plants that are 1-2 years old, while the process of wilting can be observed. In such situations, the plants begin to bind sharply, and the leaves and top of the clematis hang down. Infected shoots must be cut to soil level and burned.
Another rather dangerous disease is powdery mildew, which can affect the entire plant at once. In this case, it is recommended to use chemicals for processing, which can be purchased in specialized stores.
Advice! As a prophylaxis of diseases, you can use a solution of copper sulfate: 10 liters of water will require 100 g of the drug.
It is important to study the description and photo of Clematis Cloudburst before buying. This is due to the fact that each species has its own characteristics in cultivation and further care. In addition, existing varieties may differ from each other in the pruning group. As a result, the pruning process for each variety will differ depending on the group assigned by the breeders. As practice shows, Clematis of the Cloudburst variety will become a worthy decoration of any land plot, which is why many landscape designers prefer it.
Reviews of Clematis Cloudburst
Tatiana Semenova, 37 years old, Ulyanovsk
My parents were still engaged in the cultivation of clematis, so I know perfectly well how to take care of them. For the first time I saw Clematis of the Cloudburst variety in a flower shop. I was immediately attracted by the attractive appearance of the plant and its large, beautiful flowers. To begin with, I acquired only one bush, because I did not know exactly how it would behave, and whether it would grow. As it should be, planted on fertile soil, chose the site protected from strong gusts of wind. Since clematis grow quite large in height, I immediately began to think about support. I decided to use a gazebo as a support. The first year the variety got used to the new conditions, the growth was rather slow, for the winter, just in case, it covered the plant so that it would not die from frost. The next year, significant changes were already noticeable - my Clematis Cloudburst began to grow. Now I'm waiting for flowering.

I decided to move to live from city to village - to the country. The question immediately arose about the design of the site. Since I love flowers since childhood, it was decided to decorate the dacha with beautiful flowers. For a long time I chose the appropriate option, since I wanted not only to decorate the flower beds around the house, but also to give an attractive appearance to the gazebo. A neighbor advised me to purchase clematis, saying that the gazebo would be the best option. My choice immediately fell on Clematis of the Cloudburst variety - I did not regret my decision in the future. The bushes are very beautiful and tall. Lianas have completely wrapped around the gazebo, making it an attractive flower house. Now I plan to make an open terrace and, of course, I will also choose clematis as decoration.
